The SAIP's categories and designations of membership include:
- No designation: Student
- Designation: SAIP (PO) - Print Operator
- Designation: SAIP (PT) - Print Technician
- Designation: SAIP (PM) - Print Manager
- Designation: SAIP (PD) - Print Director
- Designation: SAIP (PDT) - Print Director Technical
Student member (no designation)
An individual who is registered either as an employed or unemployed learner studying towards a recognised qualification or part qualification in printing and packaging.
Printing Operator (designation PO)
An individual who has the ability to set up, operate, run, maintain and trouble-shoot a specific item of printing or packaging-related equipment.
Printing Technician (designation PT)
An individual who has the ability to set up, operate, run, maintain and trouble-shoot all of the equipment used in one of the four fields (pre-press, printing, print finshing or packaging trades) and who ovesees a team in one of these four areas.
Print Manager (designation PM)
An individual who has the ability to set up, operate, run, maintain and trouble-shoot all of the equipment used in one of the four fields (pre-press, printing, print finshing or packaging trades) and who manages (plans, organises, oversees, directs and controls) within one of these four areas.
Print Director (designation PD)
An individual who has a proven track-record of directing a printing or packaging company and who has acquired a full understanding of all of the four fields (pre-press, printing, print finshing or packaging trades).
Print Director Technical (designation PDT)
An individual who directs technical and non-technical aspects in multiple fields in printing and/or packaging.
